J. Black’s Feel Good Kitchen and Lounge is the place to be on a Sunday afternoon.  I’m not going to lie, I was a little hesitant to try out this place initially because it looked kind of sports bar-y from the outside and I expected them to have sticky gross bar stool booths and a subpar menu. But y’all I was SO wrong.  Writing this post made me hungry all over again. I can’t wait to come back for brunch or a game watch.

Located in Rice Military off Washington Ave, J. Black’s has all of the key components for a fabulous brunch and passes the #BrunchKlub test with flying colors. An amazing brunch must have the following characteristics: bomb mimosas + creative egg dishes +  outdoor patio.

The brunch menu is great! It has a bunch of classics like steak and eggs and egg sandwiches–but then also some fabulous TexMex favs like migas and  “Texas-sized” tacos. I would argue that the open face egg sandwich I had is possibly the best in Houston. It’s built on thick Texas toast and topped with arugula, goat cheese, tomatoes and a perfectly cooked egg. Add on some fresh avocado and it surpasses all other breakfast sandwiches in Houston. Yeah. I said it. The “Texas-sized” tacos are basically a big ole breakfast burrito sliced in half and served with a nice serving of potatoes. So wonderful.

Get there early because it fills up quick and stays full all afternoon. (I would know because we were there from 11am to past 3pm.) It’s a big outdoor patio with fairy lights, turquoise tables, a fashionable crowd, and is very dog friendly!  Perfect way to spend an hour (or four).
