A Few of Our Favorite Things: May

I’ll start by saying this: One of my LEAST favorite things about May is that JT meme that circles around Facebook the week before May. You know the one I’m talking about.

Anyways, that aside, May so far has been a great month. The rain has subsided and left us some cooler mornings… for now. Fests are coming at us right and left, and now outdoor concerts and long days at the pool are everyone’s weekend plans, right? Same.

Here’s what else we’re picking up from what this month is putting down.

Brain on Fire. Picture this: You’re a successful, young journalist living and working in Manhattan when you start feeling sick and weirdly sucking at your job. You get extremely emotional and are happy one minute and crying the next. One doctor says you have Mono and another tells your parents you’re drinking too much. You have no idea what’s going on or why you’re feeling and acting this way. That was the beginning of Susannah Cahalan’s descent into a month of madness, and it’s not at all what you might be thinking is wrong with her. She’s fine now, btw, but how she re-discovers what happened to her is chilling and makes you grateful for your mental and physical health.

Pomegranate peels and blowouts.  We feel May is the month to treat yo’self, whether you want a full-day girls outing in the River Oaks Shopping District or a spa day at Milk + Honey. We support your decision and encourage you to splurge for the pomegranate peel and the 5 minute hair steam — because you’re worth it.

NOT Lemonade, but the Hamilton soundtrack. Pretty much the most controversial thing on this list because, A. I haven’t heard Beyonce’s (ahem, queen of Houston) new album, and B. I’m MONTHS late to the Hamilton party, but I’m JAMMING to it now. How does a bastard, orphan, son of a whore and a Scotsman…. don’t get me started.

Nashville. RIP. Is it just me and my mom that watch this show? Probably, and that’s why ABC is canceling it. It’s one of my guilty pleasures, mainly because I don’t *do* country music. But I do *do* this show. Prayers for a Hulu or Netflix pick up, bc SPOILER, the series ends on the most ridiculous, heart-wrenching cliffhanger. STAHHPP.

THE BACHELORETTE. It’s back, y’all. Join our bracket for free and follow the blog for weekly posts (and gifs.. ah yes, the gifs).
