Matt and Ben Are Your New Best Friends

If you’re like me, you don’t *really* know that much about Matt Damon or Ben Affleck. Like, sure, you’ve seen Gone Girl and the Borne movies, but you might not have seen Good Will Hunting, the critically acclaimed, award-winning movie written by the pair. Or know what it’s about. Whoopsie.

You do, however, know Mindy Kaling. You have read her book, Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me, and you know she wrote a play called Matt & Ben about Matt Damon and Ben Affleck — lifelong friends and Bostonians — and how they “wrote” the movie. Note: the quotes.

An amazing script (quite literally) falls into their laps, and they aren’t sure what to do with it. They fight over it, hallucinate, reminisce and more during the one-act play, all the while you’re mentally noting to yourself to google things like, “Matt Damon Talent Show” and “Ben Affleck Height”. Oh and laughing. A lot.

Oh yeah, the best part is both Matt and Ben are played by girls. Cue added hilarity.

Lucky for us, this hilarious play is currently being performed right here in Houston, and it’s here through Jan. 29 at Stages Repertory Theatre. General admission tickets are $31.

The show is a project by the new Rogue Productions, which was created by Chelsea Ryan McCurdy and Rachael Logue, who also play the two characters.

Whether you get all the Matt Damon and Ben Affleck jokes or not, or if you know Good Will Hunting, you’ll laugh hard at this one. Go see it before it’s gone!

PS. I have watched Good Will Hunting since. It’s available on Netflix, PSA.
