How to Order at Helen in the Heights

When I think dinner in the Heights, I think neighborhood hang, right? A place with amazing food and drinks. Helen in the Heights, sister to Helen Greek Food in Rice Village, is all that and a bag of zucchini chips.

All the plates are meant to be sharable and pairable with drinks or wine. Literally the menu is a road map to a perfect meal. Grab your friends or a date and follow the instructions.

Drinks

Wine, beer, cocktails, oh my. When I went, I tried the extensive cocktail menu, but there are so many wines, it was hard to resist. Next time, they are my mission.

Cocktails… I tried three.

Love and War sounds pretty sweet with the strawberry byrrh, but it’s not overwhelming.

Juicy Karpuzzi is light with a watermelon and cucumber tequila. Top 10 summer drink for sure.

A Golden Arrow was deliciously boozey.  Greek brandy and campari. I LOVED it so much, but it is HEAVY.

Food

For a little adventure… Octopus. No fried bits. Just chewy tendrils of octopus seasoned to perfection.

For a safe reliable order… Zucchini chips. Crispy, salty and just delicious.

For a cheesy, flakey bite... Green N Cheese pie. Like a Spanakopita but bigger.

For a little kick... Shrimp Saganaki. Served on pita bread, it’s like a curry.

For fall-off-the-bone meat… Braised Lamb Shank. It’s literally the most tender meat I’ve ever had.

  1. I am looking forward to checking out Helen. Lamb Shank is always a good choice, but glad to see you enjoyed it as much as you did. I think I will order the same when I trek up there soon. Don’t know how successful this place will be in the Heights as Marys off Washington Ave hasn’t been a major success even though there other locations fare better.
