Happy Fall! Now, let’s drink some beer.

Oktoberfest is a huge two-week festival in Germany, but just because that’s more than 5,000 miles away, doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate it in Houston. Houston beer is amazing and many breweries do their own celebrations.

Celebrating the national month of beer is pretty easy. Here are the highlights:

1. Go to Oktoberfest events.
2. Go to Oktoberfest-friendly bars.
3. Buy Oktoberfest beers at great stores.

Where can I fest?

Great question. Here are some Oktoberfest events that are, a. cheap. and b. in Houston.

Oktoberfest at Eureka Heights. Saturday, Sept. 21, noon to 9 pm. Free to attend, limited release beer, snacks for sale, live music, and other festivities.

Oktoberfest Houston. Sept. 27 & 28. The Water Works. Beers from all over, athletic competitions, live polka music, dancing and food. Tickets are $25 in advance. ($30 at the door!)

Karbachtoberfest. Every Thursday, Friday and Saturday from Sept. 19 until Oct. 6. Karbach Brewery. Beer and music, what more could you ask for?

King’s Oktoberfest. Oct. 4-6 and 18-20. Heights and Pearland. Keg tapping, Barvarian Stronghold and arm wrestling competitions, bier pong, beer and food.

Achtoberfest. Oct. 10-12. 8th Wonder Brewery is back with its 4th annual event! Live music, limited release glasses and beers, and more.

Oktoberfest on the island. Oct. 25-26. Galveston. A true tribute to German Oktoberfest — it’s not only about the beer.

Do you really need an event at a bar to warrant drinking delicious fall brews? Didn’t think so. Here are my favorite spots for a good ‘ole pint (or 5):

Heights Bier Garden. (The Heights) If you want a cool patio vibe.

Kirby Ice House. (Upper Kirby) If you love dogs and are 23 or older.

King’s BierHaus. (The Heights) If you wanna feel like you’re in Germany.

Beer Market. (Midtown or Washington Cooridor) If you’re OK with making decisions from tons of beers.

The Gingerman. (Midtown or Rice Village) If you’re not afraid of college students and don’t need a lot of legroom (it’s small).

Axelrad. (Midtown) If you don’t mind a weird musician/movie playing in the background and are OK with only Pizza as a food option (why wouldn’t you be?)

Wooster’s Garden. (Midtown) If you don’t mind that everyone else is having craft cocktails.

Mongoose vs. Cobra. (Midtown) If you want your beer to come in a fancy glass (aka not just a pint glass).

“Prost” from home.

Look, guys. You don’t even need other people to drink some good beer. Fill ‘er up.

Whole Foods on Post Oak. This store has a brewery, guys. TBD on Oktoberfest brews, but pretty cool to have a brewery in the store. Talk about fresh af.

Premium Draught. Growlers and you can host a party here. Dreams.
