Love Note to Hou: Celebrating 3 Years of Blogging

Dear Houston,
You’re the most incredible city that we’ve come to love. You’ve given us friends, jobs, homes, and a community that makes us fall in love with you over and over again. Over the past three years, we’ve grown as bloggers, building our brand and voice, making connections, meeting talented people, and helping people fall in love with the city we’re proud to call home. Over the past three years, we’ve traveled to nearly 75 cities, created a Newstonian Guide (perfect for those friends that are new to town!), and written over 600 blog posts.  Blogging consistently is no small feat and we’re obsessed with everyone who’s partnered with us, inspired us and helped make this all possible!
Thank you for being the best city in the world and letting us be your unofficially, official ambassadors.
Love,
Anastasia & Natalie

Yesterday, we celebrated our third blogiversay and had an absolute blast! Thank you to everyone who came out! It was amazing seeing old friends and meeting new ones! The Houston community is wonderful and everyone who came out made the party really special!

The party was hosted at FM Kitchen & Bar and the service was amazing. They had two servers working the crowd and killing it. And let me tell you, there was a crowd! They danced, they sang, and they offered refills on drinks before you even knew you needed one. FM Kitchen made us a fabulous custom cocktail called “It’s Blue, Not Me” with had rum, fresh fruit, a palm leaf, some other ingredients I’m forgetting, and a splash of Topo Chico. It was perfect and a total hit.

If you talked me to at all throughout the night, chances are good that you heard me rave about Hannah’s Custom Cookies. She’s a crazy talented high schooler from Tomball who whipped up the most beautiful batch of cookies the world has ever seen. Trained by YouTube and fulled by Hobby Lobby, she made our logo, the Houston skyline, the number 3 and other cute decorations on the tastiest cookies I’ve ever eaten. Give her some love on Instagram here.

Our DJ, DJ Fish (like him on Facebook — he JUST got one!) was also out of this world. He played the best jams (I requested “Top 40 but more basic”) and he had all the sound effects at the right times through the evening. TBH, we wish he could follow us around with his horn and applause sound effects.

Obviously, Natalie and I were having way too much fun throughout the evening to worry about social media (sorry to the viewers at home!). But when you have 130+ friends show up, you tend to get a bit distracted. Plus it was Natalie’s actual birthday! So we were celebrating ten-fold! The star of the show that documented it all was the talented Nicole of Nicole Sergent Photography. She got that low-light lens and figured out how to make everything look amaze even in the dark! Pics or it didn’t happen right? Feel free to use her pictures (here’s the full album)! Just tag her on social media 🙂

One thing we wanted to do differently this year was give back to the community. We coordinated a raffle and donated all the proceeds to Buffalo Bayou Partnership. Counting up all the money after the party was so exciting! We sold over 500 raffle tickets and donated over $500. The money will go towards rebuilding the bayou after Hurricane Harvey. It’s one of our favorite spots in Houston for skyline views, cathartic runs, bat-watching, and peaceful green spaces. So we’re super excited to give back to such an amazing non-profit that maintains one of Houston’s most iconic parks!

Here’s a list of all the fantastic, generous vendors who donated something. It wouldn’t have been possible with all of them!

Houston we love you!!
