This week

• ROCKETS! Tuesday, May 22, at 8 pm and Thursday, May 24, at 8 pm. This week’s series is v imp, sportsball fans or not! We win this, we go to the finals. Remember how big the World Series was? Yeah, this is also big. FEAR THE BEARD! Also, click here for our favorite places to watch sportsball!
• Taste of the Nation: Tuesday, May 22, at 6:30 pm at Silver Street Studios. $125 tickets feeds you and the hungry. Click here to read more about the event and how to win free VIP tickets.

• Justin Timberlake at Toyota Center: Wednesday and Friday, May 23 and 25, at 7:30 pm. JT’s giving H-town two nights of himself, and we are so v grateful. Tickets here.
• National Wine Day: Friday, May 25, literally everywhere. Bar Victor will be featuring wine specials until 8 PM. These specials include house Rosé, White or Red Wine for $7 and one glass of either Rosé, White or Red wine with selected boards at $15.
• Space Center Houston’s Starlight Social: Thursday, May 31, from 7 to 10 pm. Mix and mingle at the Space Center with other YoPros. Tickets are $20 online or $25 at the door.  Get tickets here.
• Rioja Wine & Tapas Festival: Saturday, June 2, from 1 to 5 pm at at The Corinthian Houston. All you can drink wine and all you can eat tapas makes for the best weekend plans, are we right? Tickets are $65 or $80 for VIP. Buy tickets here.

• Rienzi Spring Party: Thursday, May 3, at 7:30 pm at MFAH’s Rienzi House. The event is cocktail attire and features a light buffet dinner and poolside cocktails. It’s one of the Museum’s annual fundraising events for Rienzi and benefits the house museum’s operating budget. Individual tickets are $250 and can be purchased by contacting RienziSpringParty@mfah.org
• Cinco de Mayo Parade: Saturday, May 5, from 10 am to noon, starting at Minute Maid. Downtown Houston is having a fiesta, and you’re all invited. More info here.
• Cinco in the City: Saturday, May 5, at Silver Street Studios. Two events, one fam friendly, one not so much.  Family-Friendly Experience:  11 a.m – 3 p.m. (Tickets $5 children 12 and under, $10 adults) and then  Margaritas and Mezcal Experience: 5 – 7 p.m. – midnight (Tickets $45 general admission, $100 VIP). Tix and more!
• Ultimate Women’s Expo: Saturday, May 5, 10 am to 5 pm, George R Brown Convention Center. This one’s for the girls! Sips, shops, spa and more — and just $10 to get in. Treat yo’self!
• Kentucky Derby with Maker’s Mark at Bosscat Kitchen & Libations: Saturday, May 5, 2-6 pm, at Bosscat Kitchen. $12 Mint Juleps and no cover to watch the most exciting two minutes in sports! With the purchase of a Mint Julep, guests keep the julep mug and receive a wristband that is designated to a certain horse. If your horse wins the race, you receive 1 complimentary drink from Maker’s Mark.
• “Cinco de Derby” at FM Kitchen and Bar:  Saturday, May 5, 11 a.m.  FM Kitchen and Bar will offer a blend of Kentucky Derby & Cinco de Mayo food and drink specials, including $5 Tequila Juleps and a “Kentucky Hot Brown Breakfast Taco” (turkey, bacon, Mornay sauce, eggs) from Chef Ryan Hildebrand — a “Cinco de Derby” Texas spin on the classic American hot sandwich originally created at the Brown Hotel in Louisville, Ky., in 1926.
• Zoo Ball at the Houston Zoo: Saturday May 5, 8:30pm. Party it up at the Rain Forest after dark at this black tie affair that benefits the Houston Zoo. If you’re a Flock member (aka part of the Houston Zoo young professionals group), you can get a discounted ticket. Expect live music and open bar! • JMBLYA: Sunday, May 6 at Sam Houston Race Park. The three-day, three-city traveling hip-hop festival in its sixth year that takes place in Dallas at Fair Park, in Austin at Circuit of The Americas, and in Houston at Sam Houston Race Park on May 4, 5 & 6 respectively. The festival will showcase some of the most sought after talent in hip-hop music today, including headliner J. Cole, as well as performances from Migos, Young Thug and Kevin Gates. Read more here!
• West Side Story at HGO: Friday-Sunday, May 4-6, 7:30 pm (Friday and Saturday) or 2:30 pm (Sunday). Think Romeo and Juliet but gangs in New York. Oh yeah and think opera. Tickets here.
• Must Love Dogs: Meet Your Match Member Mixer: Wednesday, May 9, at 6 pm at Chapman and Kirby. Join the Club PetSet Young Professionals (CPYP) and Houston’s most eligible bachelors and bachelorettes for a fun mixer to meet your match… be it a new romantic interest or friend, furry or otherwise! There will be a Silent Auction featuring unique “Date Night” experiences & packages with CPYP Bachelors & Bachelorettes as well as Sign Up Parties for fun, group experiences, too. Please note you need not be single to attend… come and meet your new best friend! For the animals!
• A Cask of Amontillado: Inspired Dishes from Sherry’s Past at Rienzi: Wednesday, May 9, at 7 pm. Guests can enjoy a historically inspired dinner from notable Houston chef Justin Yu (Better Luck Tomorrow and Theodore Rex) and his team, accompanied by sherry tastings. Tickets are $185. Check it out!
• Celebrity H-Town Chefs Against Cancer: Thursday, May 10, 6:30-8:30, at Hotel Derek. What happens when you put all your fave famous chefs in one room and try to raise some cash for cancer research and treatment? Find out on May 10. Event page here!
• “Wall of Heroes” public display at Discovery Green: Thursday, May 10, to Sunday, May 13, from 7 am to 10 pm. The interactive solar-powered art installation will feature the faces of 153 heroes who have been nominated by the public for their heroic efforts during Hurricane Harvey. For the past few months, Shell has encouraged the public to nominate their neighbors who went above and beyond to help their community during the disaster. Guests who visit the installation will have the opportunity to thank the heroes for their help in saving and rebuilding the city of Houston by leaving a digital handwritten thank you note and taking a selfie with their note displayed on an electronic screen, which can be shared using the hashtag #makethefuture. • Culture Wars at White Oak Music Hall with The Lagoons: Friday, May 11, at 7 pm. This Austin band is back in town! Check out the deets here.
• Carlos Cruz-Diez at the Cistern: Spatial Chromointerference: Saturday, May 12, from 11 am to 6:30 pm (the exhibit goes through January 13, 2019!). This is the second BBP Cistern art installation to the public! Buffalo Bayou Partnership commissioned pioneering artist Carlos Cruz-Diez to create a site-specific work for the Buffalo Bayou Park Cistern, a 1926 underground city water reservoir that BBP restored, repurposed and revealed in 2016. In the Cistern, the artist dematerializes the vast space, creating an immersive and ambiguous environment that questions our perception of time, perspective and volume. Visitors are encouraged to wear white or light colored clothing. Learn more!
• Second Saturday Open Studios & Art Market: Saturday May 12, 12pm – 7pm at Sawyer Yards. Tour studios, shop art, visit with artists, enjoy food truck fare and live music. Entrance is free and happens each month! Learn more here.
• Houston Strong art show: Saturday, May 12, from 6 to 9 pm at Anheuser-Busch (775 Gellhorn Dr.) Support local artists (like my sister in law!) and drink beer at this fun event. Full proceeds from our silent auction, as well as $2 from every ticket purchased to this event, will benefit 5th Ward CRC to aid in their recovery efforts following Hurricane Harvey. Tickets are only $20 and go towards the artists’ booth fees. Help my a sister out! Support here!
• Fine Wine and Decadent Chocolate Pairing: Saturday, May 12, from 6 to 8 pm at Nice Winery. Bring your best friends to Nice to enjoy exquisite wine and chocolate pairings, led by Winemaker and Sommelier, Ryan Levy. This is a seated class so space is limited! It’s $69 per person. Get tickets here!
• Houston Zoo After Dark: Thursday, May 17, 6 pm, at the Houston Zoo. New 21+ crowd event where you can enjoy the zoo, sans children, until 8 pm then the real party starts with booze, music and a silent disco. Tickets are $30, and don’t worry, there will be two more events like this in the summer. More here.
• South African Wine Tasting with Cape Classics: Thursday, May 17, 6 to 8 pm at Nice Winery. Cape Classics Importers is teaming up with Nice to bring winemakers from the acclaimed South African wineries, Excelsior and DMZ. This will be a fun and educational evening to taste and learn about exceptional South African wines! Light food pairings will be served. Tickets are $45 per person and available here!
• Free B-Cycle Rides for Bike to Work Day: Friday, May 18. Throughout the entire day, Houston BCycle will offer free bike checkouts from all 60 of its Houston-area stations. The promotion comes through Houston BCycle’s official healthcare partnership with CHI St. Luke’s Health. Houston BCycle’s free trips will also support those attending City of Houston’s official Bike to Work Day event on Friday the 18th. With opening remarks beginning at 7:00 AM, attendees will embark on a 20 minute, 3-4 mile celebratory bike ride to begin and end at Hermann Square in front of City Hall–which has its own Houston BCycle station.
• Rainbow Kitten Surprise at White Oak Music Hall: Saturday, May 19, 7 pm. Took me a while, but I found the fabulousness of RKS. This show sold out, but there are some v overpriced resale tix. I kept an eye on it, and snagged a ticket for $30. Try your luck.
• Houston Dressember 5K: Sunday, May 20, 8 am in Buffalo Bayou Park. An informal, super casual jog to raise some money and awareness for fighting human trafficking! I participated in Dressember last year and we raised over $1,000! Let’s race — see ya out there! OR, sleep in and just donate to the cause.
• Sunday School Brunch at Hotel ZaZa Memorial City: Sunday, May 20, noon to 4 pm. The brunch is a booze filled brunch that turns into a full blown darty (day party). The party starts with bottomless champagne being passed around as our guests start arriving. Once the guests are seated, we serve our themed brunches family style. After the actual brunch, they clear the tables, turndown the lights, pop more champagne and the real party starts. More info!
• Love Street Music Festival: Sunday, May 20, 2 pm, at Karbach. Bleachers, Cold War Kids, Everclear and tons of beers at this mini music fest. Although “mini” doesn’t seem accurate since this fest has grown a lot since last year. See ya out there! Get tix.
