Let’s talk about hunger for a sec. No, not like, “you skipped lunch, went straight to the gym and now it’s 8 p.m.” kind of hunger. I’m talking about the hunger in Texas where one in four kids struggles with hunger or is food insecure. That’s worse than the national average (which is one in six). Don’t believe me? I have beef with this — no pun intended. (Who am I kidding, the puns are always intended.) Houston has been nationally recognized for its incredible restaurant scene and food culture. No Kid Hungry, a national organization dedicated to raising money and awareness for this issue, saw this as an opportunity and launched its annual Taste of the Nation event in 1988 and, since then, has raised over $2.5 million. This year’s the smorgasbord featuring bites at sips from restaurants and bars across Houston is on May 22 at 6:30 p.m. at Silver Street Studios.
General admission is $125 to the event. $200 if you want to be fancy in VIP and get there early and have a special spot to sit. (There are also table options). I know, this is a lot. Not your typical dinner bill, but every cent goes to feeding the hungry kids across the country. Think of it like Houston Restaurant Weeks in ONE single night. Whoa. Epic.
Your support through a ticket or sponsorship purchase will help launch school breakfast programs, recruit summer meals, and empower families to shop for an prepare healthy meals. It also provides grants to the most effective hunger-fighting organization across the country to help them end child hunger in their communities.
