Houston Events You Can’t Miss in January

Happy New Year! Gosh, 2018 went fast! Let’s not let that happen again, ok? Enjoy every minute of this new year by doing all the fun things!

The Rest of the Month:

  • Joystix freeplay Friday: First (Jan 4) and last (Jan. 25) Fridays of the month from 9 pm to 2 am. It’s $15 cash to play allllll the arcade games you’ve ever wanted. More.
  • Wizard Bar Crawl: Saturday, Jan. 26, starting at Dean’s, at 4 pm. Calling all witches and wizards! Unite!
  • LAUNCH fashion show: Saturday, Jan. 26, 5 to 8 pm, in Discovery Green. The free fashion show will feature looks provided by more than 40 Houston-based designers, alongside headline designer Chloe Dao, winner of “Project Runway” Season 2. There will also be a Pop-Up Market open for shopping both before and after the show with a variety of great products from more than 20 LAUNCH vendors. Immediately following the show, guests can enjoy an After Party with a live DJ.
  • Iliza Shlesinger at Revention Center: Saturday, Jan. 26, 8 pm. HAVE YOU SEEN THE LEAVES! Our all-time favorite comedian is coming to town (never mind the fact that we originally bought tickets for a November show she had to cancel, not bitter). Whether you’re a party goblin or a shedragon — as long as you’re not a mermaid — her show sure won’t disappoint. (Trust us, seen her 3 times and counting). Tix.
  • Game of Thrones Trivia: Thursday, Jan 31, at 7 pm, at Great Heights Brewery. Winter is here, have some beer. GOT to be there.

  • Cirque du Soleil in Houston at Sam Houston Race Park: Friday, Jan 11, to Feb. 3. Various times. Y’all, the circus is coming into town. More here.
  • Zoo Lights! Frolic after dark with the animals all season long at this festive event for those young and old! More here.

  • Dream Machine. Saturday, Jan. 12, 6 pm to 2 am. An audio/ visual installation event dedicated to interactive and immersive technology, art, music and design comes to Houston for its third year. Expect to see the best and brightest artists scattered throughout Houston and Austin’s music & art sphere to bring to you an intricately designed, finely tuned and well oiled beast that can only be described as Dream Machine. $35 pp. More.
