There’s a new brunch in town and you can find it just blocks away from the Menil Collection in Montrose. Formerly known as Low Brow, Night Heron has reopened into a casual neighborhood concept with shareable plates, a welcoming patio, and an extensive drinks list. Night Heron opened in Houston in February and is part of the same restaurant group of Coltivare and Eight Row Flint–two of our favorite spots in the Heights–so naturally we were stoked to visit and try out the new Night Heron brunch menu in Houston.

Here’s what a low-key brunch at Low Brow looked like.

The Drinks

A big group of us went for Night Heron brunch on Saturday and tried basically what seemed like the entire menu. The brunch menu at Night Heron seems quite big, until you realize you have to flip through like 20 pages of drinks to find the food, which is succinctly summed up on a 1.5 page spread.  Brunch is served Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 3:30pm. Night Heron serves lunch and dinner throughout the week which offers some of the same brunch options as well as a few additional plates.

The extensive drink menu contains a variety of classic brunch cocktails like Bloody Mary and Sangria. The cocktail menu is entertaining to read because for each drink it provides a little history of where and when the cocktail was first invented. We ordered a Pain Killer (Soggy Dollar Bar, British Virgin Islands, 1970s) which was served in a solid glass and beautifully presented with a palm leaf garnish.

The Bites

The Night Heron brunch menu includes a bunch of shareable plates and sides like Black Pepper Honey Biscuits and Fried Curry Spiced Potatoes. Here’s the entrees we tried:

The Vibe

Night Heron is a great laid back neighborhood spot. We sat on the patio and enjoyed the beautiful Houston springtime weather. Between the building and a tree in the middle of patio, I expect there to be plenty of shade throughout the summertime as well. Inside was decorated quaintly as well with leather couches, palm leaves and clean white metal furniture and accents. Rolled up into the Agricole family of restaurants, I expect Night Heron to be around for a while and become a Montrose favorite!

Here are our some of our other Montrose favorites.
