What: Tacos that aren’t necessarily tex-mex-y
Where: Fusion Taco, Market Square, Downtown Houston
When: Go for lunch during the week. They have a great lunch combo of two tacos + side + drink. Fo cheeeeap. Pro tip: This is Downtown, so watch where you park. Parking cops suck and sniff out expired meters for sport.
Order: All of the dips and chips. Seriously: Chili con queso. Salsa. Guac. Black Bean dip (that’s vegetarian!!). Basically heaven.
Tacos: Agedashi Tofu, Huevos Rancheros, Shitaki Queso Fundido. Cheers for being vegetarian friendly!
Sit: Anywhere, but obvi people watching outside is preferable. The street-side tables are shaded but you’ll probably still sweat a bit in your business casual. BC #HOUSTON
Thoughts: Tofu taco had perfectly crispy tofu, but was a bit heavy handed on the soy sauce. Mushroom taco was missing something green–cilantro, cabbage, anything! Huevos Rancheros are always a win-win. Pro tip: go with a friend and one person order chips + dip and you order one of Fusion Taco’s other interesting sides–like Kale and Mango Salad or Red Cabbage Slaw.
