Houston Events You Can’t Miss This September

Despite what Green Day says, don’t sleep on September. There’s tons of stuff to do during this pre-fall month. Sure, it’s still hot as hell outside, but we’re easing out shorts and bringing in the booties. No? Just me? I love booties.

OK but in all seriousness, I know September’s a good one for events. Hit us up in the comments or via email if you hear tale of fun upcoming events around town!

Rest of the month

  • Ciara at House of Blues: Tuesday, September 24, at 7 pm. This beat is automatic, super sonic, hypnotic… if you need to keep singling this song then you should probably get tickets to Ciara’s intimate show asap. 1, 2, STEP.
  • Central Market’s 25th Birthday: Thursday and Friday, September 26 and 27 at all locations. Taste your way through the store — snack on some of Central Market’s legacy dishes and try new ones.   • 2nd Annual Houston Wellness Day: Friday, September 27, at the United Way. This summit includes a day of workshops, expert-led talks, panel discussions, and opportunities to discover some of the amazing wellness services & products in the Houston area. HealthCorps is a Houston-based national non-profit organization founded by Dr. Mehmet Oz. The organization believes that everyone should have the right to reach their full potential by learning and engaging in preventative health practices – to build a brighter future and healthier world! Houston Wellness Day was created to impact the whole community in order to create deep systemic change in the culture.   • Sweat For Puppies: Saturday, September 28, at 10 am, at Fit Factor Houston. Work out to raise money for pups looking for their furever home. PAW YEAH.

  • The Winter’s Tale at the Alley Theatre: Sept. 13 through Oct. 13. Shakespeare, but set in Texas and told through the eyes of a Houston child. This one’s a can’t miss show for any proud Houstonian! HTOWN PROUD.
  • OKTOBERFEST! Despite the name indicating that Oktoberfest takes place in October, beer drinking STARTS NOW, Y’ALL! Here’s a guide to Oktoberfesting around town.
  • Heights Morning Market: Every Sunday from 10 am to 2 pm in the Heights! SHOP TIL YOU DROP!
  • Third Thursday Bingo Nights at Market Square Park: Every 3rd Thursday from May to October. Do you feel lucky, punk? DO YOU?

This free, family-friendly evening immerses event-goers into the artistic world of Mariachi music, ballet folklorico and other representations of Mexican heritage. This showcase of traditional Mexican culture features more than 50 performers in a North American tour presented by NAIMA.
