When Oct. 31 falls on a weeknight in Houston (especially a WORLD SERIES week!!), you probably want some options of what to do. Some of us want to GET WILD, while some of us want a recovery day from celebrating the Astros. Some of us don’t really care about baseball and just need a fun place to show off our clever costumes!
I hear ya. Here are some options for how to celebrate Halloween in Houston this year!
Have a festive movie night
Several spots around town are hosting people for movie nights! Here are some that will be festive and fun.
- Hocus Pocus, 7 pm at Axelrad. Deets.
- Night of the Living Dead, 7:30 pm at Miller Outdoor Theatre. Deets.
- Beetlejuice, 7 pm in Midtown Park. Deets.
Get glam at Chapman and Kirby
Calling all celebs-for-a-night! Chapman and Kirby is again hosting its Hollywood Halloween night! It’s free to get in and there’s a $3,000 cash prize for the best costume. Deets.
Sip at a spooky speakeasy
Marfreless (a signless speakeasy in River Oaks identified only by its blue door) is having a costume party that’ll go all night! Expect costumes, sips, and conversations. Deets.
Go on a ghost tour
Let’s get a little supernatural this year, what do you think? Halloween sounds like THE PERFECT time for a ghost tour. Here are a couple ideas.
- Mister McKinney’s Haunted Houston. This one is historically spooky. Learn a little, get creeped out a little. It’s partly a bus tour with some walking parts. It’s a donation-based tour ($40) and you can sign up here for one of their 3 tours on Halloween (6:30, 7:30, or 8:30). Deets.
- Nightly Spirits’ ghost pub crawl still has spots available for its 7:30 pm tour for $25 per person. It’s such a fun time — I blogged about the tour here!
Drag out Halloween
Bar Boheme is hosting a drag show, so everyone’s in costume! The show is from 9 to 11 pm and reservations ARE required, as is a $25 minimum spend per person. PSA. Bring your $1 bills. Deets.
Dance the night away at Hotel Zaza
Hotel ZaZa is hosting its Museum District Fright Night! Wear your dancing shoes and you can expect some lite bites passed around. The event recommends bottle service, so yeah, it’ll be one of those nights! Deets.
Do a haunted hike
Oooo.. spooky trees and some cardio? This night hike by HTX Outdoors is from 6:30 to 9 pm in Memorial Park and is family friendly. It should be a fun time of healthy mingling — bring $5 for pizza after! Hope your costume is walkable. Deets.
Solve the case at a murder mystery dinner
You’re the detective at this murder mystery dinner at the Foundation Room at the House of Blues. Tickets are $90 and include a yummy dinner too! Deets.
Sing your way through Halloween
Neil’s Bahr is hosting a karaoke night and costume party! There’s money on the line for the best costume, but the best singers just get bragging rights. There’s no cover! Deets.
Drink beer and pet dogs
Dogs need costume contests too, and Saint Arnold Brewing Co. is more than happy to oblige. Head to the brewery for beers and adorableness. It’s free and the best dressed pups get a prize (I hope it’s something edible for the good boys and girls!!). Deets.
