5 Reasons to Get Excited About the “New” Buffalo Bayou Park

I’m a big fan of Buffalo Bayou. It’s arguably my most favorite place in Houston. It’s a beautiful greenspace with lots of parks and bridges and running paths and a variety of greenery and plants. It’s always an adventure when I go there and I always discover something new. Over the first weekend in October, Buffalo Bayou had it’s “official” grand opening party–aka all the construction that they’ve been doing on has finished! So while Buffalo Bayou Park has been really exciting to play in, here are five more reasons why you should cancel all you weekend plans and take advantage of this beautiful greenspace in Houston:

1.No construction. This means all the running and biking paths are complete! There are over 8 miles worth of trails that you can explore. And now you can adventure through them without having to reroute or yolo off-road it through a construction site. Check out the final Buffalo Bayou Trail Map.

2. Lost Lake. It’s actually more of a pond than a lake. But it’s gorgeous and would be a delightful place to read, or do yoga, or watch the sun set or go paddling. It’s also got a bunch of new parking spots.

3. The Kitchen at the Dunlavy. An all new restaurant that is currently under construction and is soon going to be serving breakfast and lunch with some of the most gorgeous views of the park. It’s at the top of Brunch Klub’s to-visit list. Check out the website here.

There was always an opportunity to kayak through the bayou, but now Bayou City Adventures has a store front in the park (location is actually adjacent to the Dunlavy), where you can book a kayak and you can see the downtown skyline from a totally new view. Here’s 10 Things You Need to Know about Kayaking in Houston.
