We’re so rodeo ready, y’all. March is that magical, magical month where we live in denim and cowboy boots. When every meal is an opportunity for BBQ, Tex-Mex and fried… well, anything. This year’s Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is extra exciting since we’re still excited about last month’s big Houston Super Bowl.
Our five March favorites, everyone! What are you loving this month? Comment below! ❤
The Rodeo
Sorry, couldn’t help myself. Won’t take up too much of your time… just wanted to say that we LOVE the rodeo and will writing about it — follow along here! PS. Here’s where to go before or after the show!
Black Swan’s Raven Tower Yoga
OMG, we’re back again. Black Swan Yoga released it’s #BlackSwanSunday free yoga class dates on the Facebook event! It’s still the first Sunday of each month, and still completely free. Honestly, these are my favorite yoga classes (a. bc who can compete with free, b. they are so fun and I love being outside!) Here’s what you need to know before you go!
Nikon School
I went back to school, back to school to prove to daddy that I’m not a fool. (That’s an Adam Sandler reference, btw). Nikon reached out (casual) to tell us about their super awesome photography classes. They had two back-to-back days of photography lessons, and send me a Nikon camera to play with. The classes were mostly focused (pun intended) on using a Nikon to its full capabilities (so, I am glad I had one to play with!), but I also learned some super valuable techniques from the People Photography class taught by Bob Pearson, a former photojournalist.
- Three things to things about when photographing people: Subject (duh, it’s the person), light (can be tricky!) and the background (want it to be neutral and not take away from the person)
- You want light that is soft; hard light is too harsh. However, you don’t want too soft of light, otherwise it’s not enough.
- Too busy of light/background can take away from your person in the photo
- You can use hard light to your advantage: Silhouette or a dramatic photo

Mann’s Bowls
Going to be completely honest here: I thought these Nourish Bowls were just salads I could live without. But they aren’t anything like any salad I’ve ever had. First of all, you heat them up! Each bowl has veggies, sauce, and cheese or grains that you combine then heat up for 3 to 4 minutes. The result is a deliciously warm veggie bowl with tons of protein — but no meat! My favorite one, pictured, is kale (and a lot of other veggies) with salsa and cheese. Kind of a low-fat Chipotle bowl! I brought these to work with me (bought them in stock from Walmart in the produce section) and grabbed them whenever I needed a lunch.
Houston Map Posters
Modern Map Art has a line of poster prints for zillions of different cities — and yep, there’s a Houston one! Our city’s got a whole buncha roads, and actually… they are super aesthetically pleasing. There are five different sized prints in three different color schemes. Check it out, order a print and make your bedroom/living room wall a little more Houstonian. PS if you use our referral code, we get a portion of the sales! Thanks in advance 😉
